Makeup Series: Blushes

In case you missed the first five posts in my Makeup Series, click here to read them! Each week I focus on a different makeup category and review some products in that category that I’ve tried (both drugstore and high-end.) So far, I have reviewed Primers, Foundations, Concealers, Setting Powders, and Bronzers. Now, it is time to review some Blushes! Most of you are probably already familiar with the purpose of blush, and know to apply it to the apples of your cheeks with a blush brush (click here to see my favorite blush brushes) Below, you can click the name of any of the blushes that I reviewed to see more details and shop the item.

Blushes Makeup Review

Here are the drugstore blushes:

Milani Baked Blush • $7.49 in ‘Corallina’ – This is one of the first blushes I bought and I love it still! It has a hint of shimmer and is a great bright color for Spring/Summer. Milani blushes are very popular, high quality, and a great affordable option! Plus, it even comes with a tiny brush on the underside of the package (although I don’t use it).

e.l.f. Blush • $3 in ‘Pink Passion’ – This is THE  first blush I bought and really stopped using it after I got my Milani one. This is a decent amount of product and the compact does have a mirror. It is a decent option if you are new to trying blush, but I would say it is worth spending a tad more to get the Milani for your first blush.

Now for the more high-end blushes:

bareMinerals Blush • $21 in ‘Lovely’ & ‘Flair’ – This is probably my favorite blush to use on the regular. They have both matte and shimmer shades so it can be casual or more glam depending on the look you’re going for. I love that it is mineral-based so it is great for your skin and also I like the fact that these come with the dispensing “salt-shaker” type packaging as I call them. Take a look:

Blushes Review

Elizabeth Mott Show Me Your Cheeks Blush in ‘Peach Pink’ ($23) – This was given to me in an Ipsy bag and I must say it is probably my least favorite powder blush that I own. The color is decent (though light – maybe better for more porcelain skin tones) but it is just a little less pigmented than I prefer. With this being the same price of the BareMinerals blush, I would 100% recommend that one over this. Plus that one is more product 🙂

The Balm Cabana Boy Blush ($21 for full size) – I got this in an Ipsy bag as well, and it is a great product. It is marketed as a “shadow/blush”, but I personally don’t use pinks on my eyes so I use it as a blush. The only challenge is the sample size is so tiny I have to do a few layers with my brush, but I’m sure the regular size would be perfect!

Too Faced Love Flush Blush • $26 (for full size) in ‘Love Hangover’ – I have a deluxe sample of this from a gift set, and I am a fan of it! A nicely pigmented blush that claims to last 16-hours and I think that is fairly accurate. I would put this on par with the quality of the BareMinerals and Milani blushes I also adore. Worth checking out next time you’re at Ulta or Sephora!

Benefit Benetint Cheek & Lip Stain • $30 (for full size) – For some reason, I have an aversion to liquid face products besides foundation! I mentioned in my Bronzers post that I’m not crazy about the liquid bronzers. Similarly, I’m not really into this liquid cheek stain. I just find powders to be easier to apply and blend in! Not to spoil the fun, but you’ll see next week that I’m not very into liquid highlights either 😉

Bellápierre Cosmetics Mineral Blush in ‘Desert Rose’ ($45) – You guys! I am shocked! I received this blush in an ipsy bag and wasn’t very impressed with it. Perhaps it is just this specific shade, but it is not very pigmented at all. I’d say I have to apply double the amount of this blush to get the normal results I’d get from my BareMinerals or Milani blush faves. On top of that, I just looked up this product to write the price here on this post and HOLY COW!! How is this $45 and it is probably the worst blush in this review?? Definitely skip!
