Eyelash Extensions Review & Tips

Hey, babes! If you read my “Beauty Services: Which are Worthwhile?” post (here!) you know I am a huge fan of eyelash extensions. I’ve been getting my lashes done a few times a year for the past couple years and I am definitely “hooked”! I already discussed in that post about where I get them done and the pricing, so refer back for that info! Here I’m sharing photos of how the lashes wore over time, as well as my tips for making your lash extensions last as long as possible!

Just to clarify, I am not wearing any mascara in these photos, so you can see how the lash extensions truly look…

Here is my BEFORE photo, with no makeup on at all:

6 WEEKS AFTER getting my lash extensions done: (here I do have mascara on, as you can see especially on the eye on the right side, there are some lash areas that appear longer than others and these are where the lash extensions still are intact. The other spots I have mascara on to blend them into the lash extensions. At this point, I also will cut my super long lashes with mini scissors so that they look more natural and blend in better length-wise with my natural lashes!)

Always follow the instructions your lash professional gives you, but here are the things I stick to in order to make my extensions last this long:

  • Use only oil-free products around your eye area. I still use my facial oils, but I try to keep them only on my forehead, cheeks, etc.
  • I try to avoid rubbing my eyes at all. I use a cotton round with micellar water to wash my face, so I can easily avoid the eye area. I notice that the more you touch your eyelashes, the more likely they’ll be to fall out quicker.
  • I pretty much avoid most eye makeup when I have lash extensions on. You can certainly use eyeliners, eyeshadow, etc. but again, I think the less you “do” in the eye area, the longer they will last. Plus, I like a pretty natural look so I don’t do much eye makeup anyways. When I have lash extensions, I’ll basically only do eyeliner on the lower waterline, mascara on the lower lashes, and sometimes liquid liner on the very end of my lid to create a wing. Towards the end of my lash extensions’ “life”, I start using mascara on top to make sure that what is left of my extensions will blend naturally with my real lashes. Again, make sure you use a formula that is not waterproof. Avoid all waterproof makeup around the eyes because it contains oil!
  • Brush your lashes on a regular basis to make sure they stay untangled. You can do this easily with a clean mascara wand (I like to grab a few from the little makeup stations in Sephora for free!)
  • You can wash your lashes with some baby shampoo and water in the shower
